NBA Global Games Manchester 2013
For the last 3 years the NBA and Manchester city council have been working together to bring the first ever NBA game to be held outside of London. In 2011 the WNBA came to England and made history when Atlanta Dream competed against theGB national team. In 2012 Manchester hosted a double header when the GB National team competed against Team USA with both the Women's teams and Men's teams playing warm up games in preparation for the 2012 Olympics. Now in 2013 the NBA finally arrives in Manchester when Oklahoma City Thunder face off against Philadelphia 76ers. 13,472 where in attendance to see an incredible game which seen USA international Kevin Durant play an impressive 34 minutes and scoring a total of 21 points with Reggie Jackson scoring an incredible 29 points. There was not much between the two teams in this game with the highest lead being 11 points, the final minute of the game was extremely nail biting with the teams going at it end to end until finally after numerous intentional fouls by the 76ers the Oklahoma City Thunder where victorious with the final Score being 103 - 99. After the game Thunder head coach Scott Brooks went on to say about the crowd in Manchester "I thought they where energetic and excited to see NBA players" while 76ers head coach Brett Brown opened his press conference by saying "I thought the atmosphere here was fantastic, look around and it was as well presented game". Overall an extremely successful game which seen many stars including footballers Jack Rodwell, Rio Ferdinand, Dvid De Gea and United Legend Andy Cole in attendance. Now with Manchester global game out the way all roads now lead to January 16 2014 when Brooklyn Nets face Atlanta Hawks at the O2 Arena in London.
